Naraku's origins trace back to the human bandit Onigumo, whose burning hatred and desire for Kikyo attracted a swarm of demons. The fusion of Onigumo's soul with these demons created a weak, newborn half-demon that initially had to hide and grow stronger over time. This being was devoid of honor, driven solely by greed and malice. He spent approximately fifty years in hiding before resurfacing during Inuyasha’s time, where he manipulated Inuyasha and Kikyo into turning against each other by taking his human form and attacking Kikyo, exploiting her jealousy and distrust—thus setting the stage for his quest to gather the Shikon Jewel shards. His power grew through absorption; whenever threatened or weakened, Naraku consumed other demons to increase his strength and alter his form. This adaptability made him nearly unstoppable, allowing him to split his body into fragments that could act independently.
